SMS Groups

At Eleplan, SMS Groups allow multiple people to ask questions and receive updates about the same care plan through a shared, coordinated text messaging experience. This feature is designed to keep everyone aligned while maintaining clear context and secure access.

What Are SMS Groups

SMS Groups create a structured group conversation centered around a single care plan. While participants use their own individual text threads, all questions and responses are shared with everyone in the group.

This approach provides the benefits of a group conversation without relying on native phone group chats, which lack care plan context and system awareness.

Each SMS Group is linked to one care plan, ensuring all questions are answered using the correct information.

Why SMS Groups Exist

SMS Groups are designed for situations where multiple people need access to the same care plan information—such as family members, caregivers, or care teams.

Without SMS Groups, users would need to manually switch care plans before asking questions. With SMS Groups, context is automatic, and everyone sees the same questions and responses in real time.

Creating and Managing Groups

SMS Groups are best created and managed from the dashboard, where you can control group settings and participants. When a group is created, Eleplan generates a unique group code that others can use to join.

Group names should clearly reflect their purpose to avoid confusion, especially when managing multiple groups.

Participants can be removed at any time, and removal immediately stops message delivery and access to the linked care plan.

Joining an SMS Group

Participants join a group by texting a JOIN command—along with the group’s code—to the Eleplan SMS number. Once joined, all questions they send automatically use the group’s care plan.

Confirmation is sent when a participant successfully joins, and they begin receiving all group messages.

How Group Messaging Works

When anyone in the group asks a question, Eleplan processes it using the group’s linked care plan and sends the response to all participants individually.

Each message includes the sender’s name so everyone can see who asked the question. Although messages feel like a group conversation, they are delivered as individual SMS messages to each participant.

Verified and Unverified Senders

By default, only verified users with Eleplan accounts can send messages in an SMS Group. Group creators may optionally allow unverified senders, enabling trusted participants without accounts to ask questions.

Unverified sender activity is logged by phone number. This option should be enabled carefully and only for trusted individuals.

Costs and Usage

SMS Groups use credits for each message sent and received. Because group messages are broadcast to multiple participants, usage increases with group size.

Monitoring usage and keeping groups limited to essential participants helps manage costs effectively.

Security and Visibility

All SMS Group activity is logged, encrypted, and auditable. Group membership, message history, and settings are protected under Eleplan’s security standards.

Group creators have full control over group management, while participants can only send and receive messages.

By using SMS Groups, you can coordinate care more effectively, ensure shared visibility, and keep everyone informed without sacrificing context or security. If you need help creating or managing SMS Groups, please contact our support team.
